Appreciating the simplicity and recognizing the essentiality of light, the candle holder is a preferred object for the architect Valérie Chomarat. For When Objects Work, she reimagined this iconic item, a first object design outside her architectural work.

Having worked alongside John Pawson, and having notably participated in his project “Leçons du Thoronet”, light is of high value. From this exercise in the Cistercian Abbey of the Var region, Valérie Chomarat retains the importance of halos and their plural expressions, between masses of luminosity and intimate gleams.

The idea for the candle holder draws from the architectural discipline. Inspired by classic columns and their capitals, they simplify yet to address - and reinvent – the clean lines of the traditional candle holder. Uniting Emperador marble plinth and a chocolate bronze neck, they are available in three heights, alone or stacked. The candle holders invite a sense of serenity and contemplation; the impression of spending a moment, out of time, in the heart of “Candles”, oil on canvas from the 80s painter Gerhard Richter.
