Dear friends,
Twelve years ago, we opened our doors in Sag Harbor. Next week, we close them.
We have sat with this decision for a long time. When we first arrived here, we knew almost no one. Twelve years later, we have been fortunate to call so many of you not only clients, but friends. You have welcomed us into your homes, trusted us with the rooms that matter most, and returned to us season after season. That kind of trust is not something we take for granted, and we never will.
We have had, and will always continue to have, the privilege of working on projects that are considered among the finest in the world, for some of the most remarkable people in it. Many of these projects, by their very nature, are private, and rarely if ever make their way into the press. Along the way, we have sat at the table with extraordinary architects and designers, among them Vincent Van Duysen, Piero Lissoni, Zaha Hadid, John Pawson, and Paola Navone, to name only a few we were fortunate enough to meet along the way. And we have worked, and will keep working, with clients who were once simply names we read about, and who we are now fortunate enough to call close friends.
The retail landscape has changed considerably in recent years, and the way people wish to engage with a Design House has changed with it. The concept that served this location so well for over a decade no longer reflects where our industry, or our clients, are headed. So we have made a choice. Rather than hold on to something that has run its course, we are redirecting our energy toward the markets that are expanding for us, and toward a new retail concept built around a more considered client experience and an elevated standard of service.
Our design focus remains close to home, in the Hamptons, Palm Beach, Aspen, and New York, the places where our roots run deepest. And we will continue to look for new locations to call our own, new places where we can share our energy and show our clients the corners of our design hearts. Alongside this, we remain devoted to our clients and our designer friends everywhere, and to our online platform, where we can offer that same level of attention and care to everyone, near or far. Above all, our focus will always be on our projects, and on simply sharing the most beautiful design with the loyal clients who have made this journey with us.
Our website will only grow stronger from here. It will be the place where you find our most treasured collections, from the candles of Cloon Keen to the spectacular accessories by When Objects Work, alongside furniture from extraordinary names like Gervasoni, B&B Italia, DePadova, and many more. It will be a complete resource for our end users, for our project and trade clients within our Private and Pro programs, and of course for our design partners, as they bring their most personal design ambitions to life.
In the coming days, a small number of pieces from the studio will be finding new homes. Should something have caught your eye over the years, we would be glad to see it find its place with you.
Please know that it is business as usual in every other respect. All orders will be handled with the same care they always have been, and our team remains here to help. Should you have any questions at all, we are always just a call or an email away.
Here is what we know for certain. Endings, when we let them, can be the beginning of something even better. This one is no different. We are closing this chapter with pride in what we built, and hearts full of gratitude for every person who ever walked through our door.
Sag Harbor will always be part of our story. Thank you for these twelve years.
With warm regards,
Jan and George
